Lang Cheat Sheet, resources for learning English

Lang Cheat Sheet brings together vocabulary, verbs, grammar and real-time correction exercises for learning English, with progress tracking, gamification and offline support as a PWA.

The idea behind Lang Cheat Sheet was to make learning English more enjoyable while spending time on one of my passions, programming. It’s a web app (SvelteKit, strict TypeScript, installable as a PWA) designed as a complete cheat sheet: vocabulary, verbs, grammar and real-time correction exercises, all in one place to check whenever a question comes up, with no account needed and no internet connection required once visited.

Vocabulary

Over 2,370 words organized into 23 topic categories (Animals, Food, Colors, Numbers, Emotions, Transportation, Places, False Friends…), each translated into Spanish and Portuguese.

  • Global search at /vocabulary, filtering all 23 categories by word or by its translation.
  • False Friends category, with an explicit note on why each word is misleading (for example, "Exit" doesn't mean "Éxito").
  • One-click pronunciation per word, using the browser's native Web Speech API, without generating a single audio file.
  • Six exercises per category: Matching, Multiple Choice, Type Answer, Order Words (anagram), Listening Choice and Dictation.

Verbs

515 regular and irregular verbs with their six forms (infinitive, present, past, future, past participle and gerund), each also pronounceable on its own since every form sounds different (for example, “arose” versus “arise”).

  • Tense selector (present, past, future, participle, gerund) shared across all four practice exercises.
  • The same six exercise types as vocabulary, including Listening Choice and Dictation, whose audio changes with the chosen tense.

Grammar

24 grammar topics, from To Be and Present Simple to Passive Voice, Reported Speech or Phrasal Verbs, each with its own reference table and a fill-in-the-blanks exercise with real-time correction.

  • Topic index with search at /grammar, each topic on its own page with a conjugation table and a fill-in-the-blanks exercise.
  • An extra sentence-reordering exercise (Order Words) combining all 24 topics, on its own page at /grammar/practice.

Progress and gamification

Every right and wrong answer is saved in the browser’s localStorage (no database or backend) and weighs which words, verbs and sentences show up more often in the next rounds — a lightweight spaced repetition, inspired by the same principle behind Duolingo and other language apps.

  • Panel at /progress with level, XP bar, day streak and unlockable achievements.
  • Floating level and XP widget, visible across the whole app, not just on /progress.
  • "Practice my mistakes" mode, reusing the same exercise engines filtered to failed items.
  • Export and import your full progress as a JSON file.

Installable app

Lang Cheat Sheet can be installed as an app thanks to its manifest and its network-first caching service worker, so it also works offline once each page has been visited.
